Harpswell is unique. The town offers more coastline than any
other town in the country. It has 216 miles of coastline. Harpswell
is quite varied. Making up the town are three diverse islands
Great (Sebascodegan) Island, Orrs Island and Bailey Island, all
connected by Route 24. The other "side of Harpswell is Harpswell
Neck which is a 15 mile long peninsula. Harpswell has approximately
40% of it home owners from out of state. It still contains many
of the old "Maine" General stores and villages. It
offers rural areas and most of all it offers waterfront homes,
water view homes and homes with a right of way to the water.
Of the interesting places to visit in Harpswell are Cundy's Harbor
of Route 24, which is a classic fishing village. Be sure to have
lunch on the wharf at Holbrooks. Enjoy the views as you head
south on Route 24 and eventually end up on Bailey Island after
you cross the famous "Crib stone Bridge". You could
also eat at Cooks Lobster house or drive a little further to
see Mackerel Cove and Lands End.
Harpswell Neck offers a pretty Drive on Route 123. Connecting
the two highways is Mountain Road. You'll enjoy the views of
Ewing Narrows as you go across the view. A very nice neighborhood
off Rt. 123 is High Head. A very unique area this subdivision
has its own yacht club and is located on its own peninsula.
Further down the road is Harpswell center with the antique
church "Elijah Kellogg" on the left. Eventually you'll
get to near the end and have choice to go to Basin Point area
and the Dolphin Marina Restaurant for a cup of their famous
chowder or straight ahead to the village of Potts Point.
All in all Harpswell living is the real coast of Maine!
